The objective of the project is the validation of computational codes developed for describing the behaviour of Cable-In-Conduit-Conductors (CICCs), also by comparison to existing experimental results, in the following areas:
1) Mechanical analysis of the crack propagation in the local insulation of the EFDA Dipole (EDIPO) which de-bonds at the conductor interface, performed by means of numerical techniques.
2) Modelling of ITER Poloidal Field full-size conductor using a 3D nonlinear electromagnetic code: includes the simulation of the Poloidal Field Insert Sample and the Poloidal Field Conductor Insert, by using a new code allowing non-linear ‘fast’ analyses.
3) Modeling of sub-cables of CICCs using a 3D nonlinear mechanical code. The sensitivity analysis on the Low-Field conductor of the EDIPO, with a fixed void fraction and variable cabling twist pitch (TP), is foreseen for different configurations.
