Current context of network vulnerability and interdependency analysis has developed insights on the magnitude of the potential risk but has had great difficulty - given the innate complexity- in developing appropriate practical methodologies, tools, measurement metrics to support interdependencies analysis. To date, no integrated holistic approach, based on either technologyinspired or theoretical models are available for networks interdependencies analysis. Our incapability to conduct appropriate networks interdependencies analysis undermines the possibility
that CIP programs can correctly assign resources and efforts for mitigation solutions targeted to the most critical risks. MIA aims to build a innovative methodological framework and relative metrics for the best practice approach needed in the field of networks interdependencies analysis tested on a practical Italian case study but scalable to EU level. Particular focus will be interdependencies of ICT and electricity networks but basic results will be applicable to other network analysis with the
appropriate fine-tuning. It is well known that fundamental interdependencies criticalities exist among infrastructures: faults, errors, attacks may be more or less dangerous according to the level of interdependencies which if not controlled can create a “multiplicative effect”. The consequence of high interconnection can be increased vulnerabilities and consequent risk of domino effects. It is thus important to understand the associated relationships, vulnerabilities, potential impacts and related risks.
