Descrizione e Attività
Descrizione Generale
Curtailment of renewable electricity, i.e., the share not absorbed by the grid, continues to increase every year, as grid and storage infrastructure fail to keep pace with the fast-increasing renewable electricity output across the EU. This trend undermines the viability of renewable energy SMEs, as well as the expansion capacity of the entire sector. Hence, beyond much needed investments in grid stability, substantial investments in energy storage by SMEs are necessary to maintain EU’s momentum on renewable energy. ENSA will mobilise renewable energy value chains, particularly SMEs from less developed regions, to alleviate this bottleneck by supporting interregional innovative investments in energy storage, strengthening the amortisation of renewable energy production and restoring its growth potential. To this end, the project will carry out the following actions: 1. Demonstration and maturing of 8 innovative energy storage technologies towards market readiness. 2. Facilitation, support or launching of interregional innovative energy storage investments valued at >€80M. enhancing SMEs innovation capacities. 3. Promotion of investment awareness and fostering of SMEs’
readiness for innovative, competitive, peak-offsetting storage for their renewable electricity output. 4. Improved peer-to-peer policy learning and exchanges between public authorities and industry actors, leading to targeted policy support for renewable energy storage
investments 5. Fostered growth of quadruple helix ecosystems, mobilising territorial stakeholders in leveraging investments in energy
storage. 6. Enhanced interregional and cross-border value chain linkages in both developed and less developed territories fostering long- term synergies between regional innovation ecosystems. 7. Enhanced technical and business capacities of SMEs in renewable energy value chains through the ENSA skills development and mentorship programme.
