Descrizione Generale
The aim of the project is to develop measurement and simulation techniques for determining the physical properties of ionising particle track structure on different length scales, and to investigate at the cellular level how these track structure characteristics correlate with the biological effects of radiation. The relevant length scales range from about 2 nm (diameter of the DNA double helix) to about 10 µm (diameter of the cell nucleus).
Attività svolta da ENEA
L'ENEA coordinerà il WP4 che fornisce dati di riferimento biologici utili per il WP5, eseguendo saggi radiobiologici per quantificare, in fasci di ioni di diversa qualità, l'induzione di danno iniziale al DNA e gli effetti tardivi.
Collaborerà inoltre al:
. WP 5 sviluppo di un modello di simulazione multiscala per la quantificazione dei danni biologici causati dalle radiazioni di diverse qualità;
. WP 6 trasferimento e disseminazione dei risultati
. WP 7 controllo e gestione.
