Descrizione Generale

The project aims at the creation of a network of infrastructures (NoI) based on laboratories, advanced equipment, demo and pilot plants, owned by partners with high skills and expertise on the substitution/reduction of critical raw materials (CRMs), like Cr, Co and W, in high value bulk alloys and coatings, used under extreme conditions of temperature, loading, friction, wear , and corrosion (e.g. high-speed machining, high-friction components for use in transportation like aeronautics, materials in marine or corrosive environments, etc.) that are interesting for industries and enterprises in the manufacturing, machining, transport, construction, and energy sectors.
The network will operate in the whole value-chain related to the substitution of CRMs for these applications: modelling, fabrication and testing of substitute materials, together with issues related to environmental impact, life cycle assessment (LCA), recovery and recycling.
The main objectives of the network are:
• the development of new shared actions focused at the substitution and efficient use of critical raw materials used under extreme conditions;
• providing services (e.g. modelling of alternative materials, development of bulk and coating materials and related process optimization, characterization and functional testing of materials, recovery and recycling of materials, training of professionals and researchers, etc.) to enterprises, industries and research institutions in the interested sectors;
• supporting related education activities.

Attività svolta da ENEA

Le attività ENEA prevedono: il coordinamento del network europeo nel settore dell'ottimizzazione dell'utilizzo di materie prime critiche in condizioni severe di utilizzo; il monitoraggio dei relativi risultati di progetto;
la pubblicizzazione del network su riviste e in meeting; l'attivazione di contratti esterni con imprese e industrie europee con l'obiettivo di definire, sviluppare e portare sul mercato tecnologie innovative; l'organizzazione di conferenze internazionali incentrate sui temi dello stesso progetto.
