Descrizione:

The establishment of an EU-wide network of infrastructure for the research on metal-based lightweight materials will extend the possibilities for the development and experimental testing of new lightweight materials, advanced production and processing technologies as well as innovative and resource-efficient applications. By combining existing research capacities and different fields of expertise it will be possible to simulate and test complex process chains for a huge variety of different materials, technological settings and intended applications. Offering these possibilities and services the network will support European industry in developing innovative resource-efficient products and production systems. As light weighting and efficiency-improved production technologies are relevant for almost all branches of industrial production, the network may serve a very broad target group creating lots of opportunities of joint research and innovation activities for KIC partners as well as in relation with external customers. Therefore, the network is also intended to become a major source for innovation in the fields of materials science, resource efficient production/recycling technologies and lightweight applications. As the production and processing of light and other metals is one of the most energy and raw material consuming industries in Europe, improvements in this field provide a very powerful lever for creating a resource efficient economy. The three-year KAVA funding period will be used to document and consolidate information on the existing research infrastructure as well as to develop respective products and service offerings in order to provide an easy access to this infrastructure for both, KIC partners and external clients. Also, the organisational basis for a sustainable operation and further development of the network will be established in order to set up a lasting and autonomously funded cooperation.
